Solar Lamp Post Lights Reduce Energy Costs!

Outdoor lighting is about style and safety, and solar lamp post lights can provide both for a fraction of the cost of traditional lighting options.

When returning home from a long day at work or play, driving up to a dark home can be a scary ordeal. While no one wants to believe they will be the person facing an intruder, dark walkways are the perfect place for burglars to stand waiting for your return home. Lighting walkways and driveways is a simple was to improve the safety of the home and add a bit of beauty along the way.

These solar post lights work similarly to alternative energy garden lighting. Small cells are attached to the top of the unit that collects the sun’s energy throughout the day. When the sun sets, the panels power the bulbs inside providing just enough ambient light.

While some units are self contained, others may be attached to a main power source. These kind of solar powered lamp post lights are wired together and feed off the collected power from a main solar cell attached to a stake in the ground. Most often the cell is larger in these types of lighting than the individual units.

Garden lights are often less expensive than solar lamp post lights, but there is a way to take advantage of the smaller price tag. Garden lights can be attached to longer poles and used in much the same way as lamp posts. Total cost of the build can be less than $100 and no electric will be used to power the bulbs.

When choosing the style for your home, there are generally two versions – the one headed and two headed light. One headed lights provide just one bulb housed in a weather proof outer casing. These will often be attached to posts, but can come as small post heads that need to be attached to stakes of wood or metal at an additional cost. Two headed units work in the same way, but two units are attached to the same base. Each bulb is powered with a separate solar cell.

When figuring the budget for your solar outdoor lighting, take into consideration the cost of powering electrical versions of the same safety lamps. While it could take a few years to earn back the money for the cost of the lamps, they will eventually pay for themselves and the carbon footprint of your home is reduced dramatically immediately upon installation.

Installing the units is quick and easy. Most will move directly from the box to the yard with just a few pieces to put together. Total time for common installation is less than an hour which is no time at all compared to the money you will save on your electric bill.
