Furniture Feet Add Style, Consistency to Kitchens

A growing trend in the cabinetry industry today has been using furniture feet under counters, islands, and other kitchen fixtures. Using various styles of furniture feet has many advantages for the designer looking to augment the theme of a particular kitchen; from bringing the coziness of the living room into what has previously been viewed as a purely functional space, to creating an impressive and beautiful space that inspires. Such careful thought is put into the pulls on the drawers and knobs on the cabinets, the moldings and trim, and the corbels supporting the range hood or accenting an archway. Furniture feet can add that something extra which ties all these other elements together. A well-designed kitchen is a mark of true craftsmanship, and the right furniture feet can be an essential tool in achieving that mark.

Furniture feet have the potential to change the feel of an island or set of cabinets. No longer simply functional, the addition of furniture feet changes these “fixtures” into furniture. Kitchen islands and cabinets take on an elegant and dignified air with these simple touches. Additionally, furniture feet can lend support to a given theme. The right tulip-styled furniture feet can seamlessly finish an English Country styled kitchen. Or, perhaps, ball-and-claw feet to bring the grace of the Queen Anne style. Whatever the style a particular kitchen is built in, the right furniture feet may be just what was needed to complete the look and feel.

Trends in design have, of course, steadily changed over the years. Whereas at one point cabinetry was highly ornate and artistic, with craftsmen devoting themselves to every detail, designing high-class pieces that were elegant in every way. These constructions were viewed not just as storage spaces, but as a thing of beauty, adding to the space in which they were located, and not detracting. With the advent of the 20th Century; Shaker, Mission, or Arts and Crafts styles became prominent. The extra and ornate details were less frequently seen, in favor of more simple structures.

The addition of furniture feet to kitchen cabinets and islands can draw in the influence of the design eras, which preceded us. Whether highly ornate, such as in the classical period, or a more simple elegance that can be seen in the English Country or the Early American Colonial furniture; the look and feel of any kitchen can be easily tied in with the rest of the home. The right furniture feet can help to create a warm and inviting space in what often does become the “hub” of a home.

Furniture feet can be found in many different styles and sizes in the collections offered by Osborne Wood Products, Inc. Whether round or square, and ranging from very simple to more delicate and ornate, one is sure to find a high degree of craftsmanship and quality in their repertoire. Most items are offered in more than ten different wood types, making coordination simple.
