Signal Mountain Serves As A Doorway To Civil War History and Chattanooga, Tennessee

Located in the historic district of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, owners and innkeepers Earl and Susan Rothberger have renovated their hundred-year-old home and turned it into a wonderful bed and breakfast. The Rothberger’s B&B home is called the Old Towne Bed and Breakfast, and it welcomes guests from all over the country.

The Old Towne Bed and Breakfast has four unique bedrooms (designed and decorated by Susan) with 3 private bathrooms. The owners of the Old Towne B&B can accommodate individuals on vacations or honeymoons, and if needed, they can accommodate large groups for reunions or weddings, in the event you would want to rent the whole house for your event.

Excellent Food

Each room provides a stocked fridge, and guests are offered wine and cheese provided every afternoon.

The food is good. In fact, proprietor Earl Rothberger enjoys getting into the kitchen and providing anything his guests might ask to eat. Earl has a gift for food preparation that enables him to brilliantly answer to the food needs of his guests, from eggs benedict, to delicious homemade bread, homemade rosemary bread, or vegetarian dishes.

Pefect For The Business Traveler

The Old Towne B&B has made its accommodations suitable for business travelers. They provide free computer access, copying machines, fax machines, and Internet access – everything that the business traveler needs on those business trips or working vacations.

I know how hard it is to leave the office at the office when you are on vacation, but the Old Towne has shown itself to be aware of our need for connectivity, while at the same time creating an environment that will allow us to relax and enjoy ourselves.

Central Location

Old Towne Bed and Breakfast is a quaint house nestled on Signal Mountain, Tennessee. It is perfect place to stay of you have a relative at Alexian Nursing Home – just seconds down the street.

Located just 12 miles from downtown Chattanooga, it’s location makes it convenient to the business traveler or the couple on vacation.

In Signal Mountain and nearby Chattanooga, one has quick and easy access to boutiques, restaurants, and antiques shopping. In Signal Mountain, the downtown area offers many attractions including: a beautiful aquarium, Ruby Falls, Rock City, The Chattanooga Choo-Choo, and several Civil War battlefields.

If you plan to visit the Old Towne with your children, you will find a wealth of playgrounds to choose from, and if you are a bit more adventurous, your kids will have a thrill at the Pumpkin Patch or the downtown Creative Discovery Museum.

Some wonderful attractions within driving distance, include: Monteagle, Lookout Mountain, historic Chickamauga battlefield, and the Applachian mountains.

Signal Mountain, TN played a pivotal role for the Union army during the Civil War, starting in 1863. You can read more about the historical significance of this area at the Signal Mountain community website (http://www.sigmtn.com/community/history.php).

Activities

If you are visiting the area during the summer months, one of the highpoints of the local culture includes a trip to watch the Lookouts Baseball games. The team’s stadium overlooks the beautiful Tennessee River.

For the more civilized among us, the local area boasts of several local golf and country clubs, and tennis courts for your enjoyment.

But for those of us who like to dive into our natural surroundings, mountain treks are not out of the norm. In fact, if you are an extreme outdoors adventurer, there are great rock climbing sites, mountain biking trails, and several white water rivers around the area to explore.

While the extreme outdoors is not for everyone, the beginner hiking trails invite anyone and everyone to visit, and along the way, you might even take up bird watching, as the local natural habitat appeals to a great diversity of animals and birds.

The Old Towne Experience

Innkeepers, Earl and Susan Rothberger welcome anyone from anywhere in the world to come visit their quaint and beautiful Bed And Breakfast.

There is no minimum stay, so if you stay for one night or two weeks you will be very welcome, and the rates are very reasonable – at a little over one hundred dollars per night.

With a recent addition to the home, the Rothberger’s have added a lovely deck overlooking a garden. Also, you can enjoy a nice soak in the hot tub with a nice glass of wine, if you feel so inclined. The owners have also acquired a wide selection of dvds and board games if you happen to be staying with them on a rainy or snowy day.

Having made the journey to Tennessee, I can’t help but recommend it to anyone who loves the great outdoors and the cozy environment brought forth by the Old Towne B&B, just a few miles to the northwest of Chattanooga, TN.

The Signal Mountain, Tenn area offers activities for all ages. And for my taste, the Old Towne Bed and Breakfast is the choice for my weekend getaways and sleeping accommodations in the Tennessee valley area.
